Wellington has lost one of its best-loved residents with the death on Friday of Mr Howard Perry aged 95 at Oak Tree residential home. His years behind the counter at the family shop, Perry’s ironmongers on Fore St, made Mr Perry a familiar face to almost everyone in the town.
Many people took to social media to express their memories and condolences. The Perry family has said that funeral details will be announced soon.
“Very sad day for Wellington, a truly lovely gentleman always provided all the knick-knacks you want to pick up .A truly upsetting day for everybody,” said Kevin Fuller of Fuller stuff
“R.I.P. Mr Perry, you were one of the town’s stalwarts,” added Wellington mayor Gary James.
“God bless you Howard, the town of Wellington will be a lesser place without you. You have served us well for more years than I care to remember. Condolences to Mike and the family,” said locksmith John McGinn.
“What an amazing man, still walking in for his haircut until a short while ago,” said hairdresser Yvonne Bell, owner of Manny’s. “ RIP Mr Perry our thoughts are with the family.”
