Wellington and District Twinning Association has had a busy year with very successful exchanges for adults between both Torres Vedras and Immenstadt. outgoing Chairman, Roger Nunn, reported at the AGM.
Looking to the future there is a major celebration planned in 2014 when the association celebrated 50 years twinned with Lillebonne, 25 with Immenstadt and 15 with Torres Vedras, when groups would be coming in from all three towns.
The Association still plays a minor role in organising the Youth Exchange between Wellington and Lillebonne – an exchange that has being going for many years. It was hoped that the youth exchange with Immenstadt would recommence this coming September, and that a group from Lillebonne would visit Wellington for the carnival. In June a small group from here will be visiting Torres Vedras.
During this year there had been a very active social calendar with Cheese and Wine evening, Jubilee Tea, a barbecue greatly enjoyed even though it was rather damp and the Annual Dinner that was in fact a Lunch!
The new Chairman – Mrs Laurian Cooper, thanked Roger for all his hard work over the past 3 years and said she looks forward to working with him. “I appreciate it is a struggle to keep schools interested and committed to exchanges, but I want to promote twinning as it is still very relevant in today’s changing world,” said Mrs Cooper
