Wellington AFC kept pace with Toolstation League 1 Western leadership rivals Keynsham Town on Saturday with a 2-1 victory at home over Welton Rovers. Both Wellington and Keynsham have 49 points but Wellington have the advantage of a game in hand.
Against Welton Rovers – 14th in the league – Wellington struggled in the first half. The visitors had the advantage of the slope and their solid midfield made life difficult for the Tangerines’ strikers. The away side looked more fluent both technically and tactically and their goal after 25 minutes was deserved.
With the slope in their favour in the second half, Wellington looked more at ease and built some telling attacks both through the centre and from the wings. Striker Jack Taylor scored the equaliser and then the winner shortly afterwards from fluent play. A further goal was disallowed for offside.
Next week Wellington are at home to Almondsbury UWE, currently lying at the bottom of the league in 22nd place. Keynsham also have a home game against Roman Glass.
