Wellington claimed a valuable point in their Toolstation Premier league match versus Hallen on Saturday 30 September and were only denied victory by a last-minute goal from Hallen’s Aaron Anglin.
In what is described as ‘an entertaining affair’, Hallen went ahead on two occasions through Aaron Anglin and Tom Hallett but Wellington drew level with goals from Ollie Nott and Sam Fowler. With six minutes remaining, Wellington took their first lead of the game after Ian Bellinger scored, before Hallen restored parity.
This was a goal-fest for spectators – although the match was not well-attended, the gate being the lowest of the league on the day.
The result once again suggests that the Tangerines are getting to better grips with the higher division following their promotion at the end of last season and proving tenacious in tough matches. Hallen may be just a few places above them in the division in 16th place but playing yet another fixture away from home cannot make the task of securing points easier for Wellington.
Wellington return to their North Street ground on Saturday 7 October at 3pm. Their opponents are Longwell Green Sports who are languishing at the bottom of the table without yet earning a single point from 10 matches. This must be a fixture that Clive Jones and his players are looking forward to playing and they would surely welcome a strong turn-out from their followers.
