Wellington suffered a 0-1 defeat by Shepton Mallet at home on Saturday 7 January.
The game was in doubt before an early morning pitch inspection but both the Reserves and 3rd team’s matches were postponed.
The home side went a goal down after just 4 minutes when Craig Loxton scored from a free kick. According to Twitter reports the Tangerines ‘suffered a narrow defeat against a spirited and organised Shepton Mallet who worked hard for the three points’. Man of the Match for Wellington was their captain Tim Legg who played despite suffering from flu.
Wellington’s next match – against Hengrove Athletic on Saturday 13th January – is a fascinating prospect. Hengrove were promoted from Toolstation Division One to the Premier League with Wellington at the end of last season and lie just one place above them at present. Wellington are in 16th place but two of the five teams below them have played fewer games. To avoid a relegation battle, Wellington need every single point they can muster from the second half of the season.
