Weston Super Mare, relegated twice in two seasons visited Courtland Road meaning business in terms of getting back to a higher division sooner rather than later. Ex-professional Charl Willoughby and current Somerset CCC squad player Ryan Davies both turned out and played parts in a 74-run win that saw the Seasiders take 20 points to Wellington’s seven.
Green and Fear added over 80 for their side’s opening wicket before Luke Desave and Arron Campbell split them apart with a wicket each after they had made 45 and 46 respectively.
Davies with 61 was the mainstay of WSM’s batting effort as their final total of 227 was based, mainly, on their top order as the lower players did not really offer too much as Desave with 4-42 in ten overs, Ian Hewson with the excellent figures of 3-21 in ten overs used both the new and used ball well.
Arron Campbell’s off spin (1-29 in eight overs) was tidy and there was a wicket for Chris Shapland too as WSM were out in the last of their fifty overs as Luke Desave ran out last man Chambers.
Wellington faced a top attack as Willoughby and Chambers made run scoring difficult and there was a five wicket haul for Chambers all told.
Alex Sparks with 54 showed all his class with the bat as he top scored for Wellington with Arron Campbell (14), Luke Desave (15), Jack Beal and Mark Bray (11 each) aiding their skipper.
