Wetherspoons’ construction team move into the Old town Hall next week to begin work on the new pub. Opening date is set for July 19th, after 20 weeks of refurbishment costing £2.3m.
“We know there have been doubts about this project but Wetherspoons are 100% committed to The Iron Duke and we very much look forward to opening in mid-summer,” said a Wetherspoons spokesman.
Up to 50 full and part-time staff will be recruited by the pub chain which now has almost 1000 pubs in the UK and Ireland. Part of the refurbishment effort will involve cleaning up Cornhill, where the side entrance to the Town Hall will provide the pub’s only outdoor space.
