Richard Masters, Head Brewer at Masters’ Brewery at Greenway Park near Holcombe Rogus, has ambitious plans to explore a new, potentially huge market for his beers – in China. Richard and his son Dean are heading east this week for two weeks to showcase their bottled beers at the China International Alcoholic Beverages Expo in Guizhou.
The Expo takes place over four days and they then fly to Jinan for, in Richard’s words, “a few very exciting meetings. Details to follow on our return!” Chinese people are some of the world’s biggest beer-drinkers in terms of volume per head, and with a population of around1bn it doesn’t take a maths degree to see the market potential. It won’t be all work, though. While they are in China the Masters are planning to visit the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the 2009 Olympic Bird’s Nest Stadium and Tiananmen Square.
