Local acoustic quartet Thunderbridge Bluegrass Band have got into some great adventures during their 12 years together, the most recent being a day at Pinewood Studios recording the final of the US version of ‘Bake Off’ with Mary Berry
Last October, The Great American Baking Show’s production company Love Productions got in touch with the band as they needed some ‘original bluegrass to be played on the final show’. Of course, the Wellington-based band jumped at the chance and were filmed next to the marquee playing to the competition winners and friends in a ‘winter wonderland party’ scene.
The band’s singer, Nick Girone-Maddocks said “It was a great day out, a great experience. Mary was lovely and the whole team looked after us really well”. In an additional boost, it turned out the programme could only use original material. “As it is filmed in the UK and aired in the US, there are all sorts of licensing hoops to jump through playing other music” Nick said, “So it was just easier for Love to pay us for the use of original songs, which was great – it means that once again our music will be played across the pond and the world over in the repeats!”
The band’s appearance on the final, only just broadcast this week on ABC in America, is due to be uploaded to their website soon.
It is another great step forward for the band, who are also playing two dates at the 02 Arena in London later this year, as well as some great festivals both here and in Europe.
