Pupils in Year 2 at Wellesley Park Primary School, Wellington, presented their Christmas Play to the whole school on Friday 15th December following performances to parents, families and carers on Thursday 14th. Two more performances are planned for Monday 18th December.
This delightful production told the timeless nativity story in words and in songs – lots of them – with an impressive array of costumes adding to its charm. All the children in Peter Rabbit and Mrs Tiggy-Winkle classes were involved, led by Year 2 teachers and teaching assistants.
This was also the school’s Christmas Jumper Day and pupils and staff – including Head Miss Lindsay Gabriel – sported appropriate knitwear.
Father Christmas made a surprise visit to Elmer and Gruffalo classes to the delight of the pupils. He had been invited by the school’s PTA Chair, Hannah Eveleigh who reported on the success of the school’s Christmas Fair last month. She said, “Our Christmas Fair went really well and we raised over £2,100 which was fantastic.”
The top raffle prize of £100 was donated by Hannah’s mortgage business, Shuteleigh Finance. Ironically, the winning raffle ticket belonged to Hannah’s mother who, as a director of the company, chose to donate the money to the PTA. The proceeds of the Christmas Fair and the PTA’s other fund-raising activities will go towards providing playground equipment for the school and contributing to the costs of visits and outside speakers.
