Environmental group Transition Town Wellington will benefit from an art sale in the Pop-Up Shop, Fore Street, this week.
Anita Roy and Sue Rickard are presenting the Art of Nature exhibition until Saturday and will donating 50 per cent of all profits from sales to the charity.
They are both key members of TTW and say a love of nature spurs their activism and shines out in their paintings.
Anita is a well-known writer, and regular contributor to The Guardian‘s Country Diary column, and this is her first exhibition as a painter.
Her work is mostly done with Chinese ink and brushes.
Sue is also a writer and musician, and has exhibited her paintings widely.
Last year, her exhibition at the Pop-Up Shop was a resounding success, prompting her to hire the space again.
Her new work includes bold and evocative paintings of trees and landscapes.
They say: “Transition Town is all about tackling the climate and ecological crises by acting locally, in our communities, using our head, heart and hands.”
Sue and Anita will be at the Pop-Up Shop throughout the week, 10am-5pm, to talk not only about their artwork but about the positive impact TTW has had on their own lives and on the town itself.
