Wellington’s Para Badminton player, Andrew Martin, has swapped the court for the stage – for the Christmas season at least – and is appearing in pantomime at the London Palladium. He has joined the cast of ‘Snow White’ as one of ‘The Magnificent Seven’ alongside big stars of stage and screen, including Dawn French who plays the Wicked Queen, Julian Clary as The Man in The Mirror, Paul Zerdin as Muddles, Nigel Havers as The Understudy, Gary Wilmot as Mrs Crumble with Vincent and Flavia as The King and The Queen.
Andrew is still pursuing his dream of representing his country at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo when Para Badminton will be included for the first time, but ranking points in 2018 from competitions have been hard to come by. He reached the quarter finals of the Irish International in June but failed to make the European Championships in France in August.
Andrew is totally self-funded. Money for training expenses, competition entry fees, air fares, hotels and equipment all have to be found from his own resources.
