Wellington Street Fair, the biggest fundraiser for the town’s Carnival, is now accepting bookings – but prospective stallholders are advised to get their applications in early as, over the last two years, space has sold out quickly for this increasingly popular event.
A spokesperson for the event said, “The organisers of Wellington Carnival are delighted to announce that applications are now being accepted for stallholders wanting to take part in Wellington Carnival Street Fair on Sunday 2nd June 2019.
“Local businesses requiring a stall are encouraged to apply early, as space for the previous two years has sold out.
“In addition to the stalls, the organisers are hoping that many local businesses will also open on the day to benefit from numbers attending the event.
“The event has grown spectacularly over the last few years; it now attracts more visitors and greater footfall than the carnival itself! High Street and South Street will be filled with over 80 stalls selling a variety of goods.
“There will also be stalls and representation from various carnival clubs and committees from all around Somerset. Local groups have also promised to support us again, providing free entertainment throughout the day in impromptu arenas established in High Street and South Street.”
This event is the main fundraiser for Wellington Carnival which will take place on September 28th 2019.
The Carnival Committee is now preparing to distribute more that £3,500 to local groups and charities, funds raised from the Carnival and other events throughout the year. Event Secretary Louise Brierley said, “I am delighted to confirm that, hot of the press, our committee last night confirmed that we will be holding a presentation very shortly, issuing over £3,500 to local groups and charities, this being the surplus cash from the organising committee’s fundraising efforts during 2018 which, of course, includes Street Fair and Carnival. Further details of this presentation will follow in due course”.
