Wellington is the third happiest town in Britain according to The Times. The newspaper says “this handsome small market town” is its top home-buying tip for 2015.
The report in the paper’s weekly Bricks & Mortar supplement rates 15 popular small UK towns in order of how contented the population is with where they live. Only Bridport in Dorset – home of tv series Broadchurch – and Horsham in Sussex come out higher than Wellington.
The report says that families keen to get out of the UK’s bigger cities are turning against the once fashionable rural rectory or farmhouse and choosing to move into small market towns.
They offer independent shops, pubs and restaurants, good schools, social clubs and entertainment with a community small enough that residents recognise each other when they pop out for a loaf of bread, says the report.
