Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance has received £500 from funds raised at Wellington Carnival in October last year and other fund-raising initiatives this year. Wellington Carnival Committee Secretary Louise Brierley presented a cheque to the charity’s coordinator Terry Small this week.
This is just one of the many charities that has benefitted from the work of the Carnival Committee. Louise said, “Once the costs of the carnival were deducted from proceeds we made £2,500 profit and decided to do more fund-raising. The Charity Abseil down the tower of St John’s Church in February was a great success and raised nearly £6,000. Lots of charities got involved – including Seeability who provided people to abseil for sponsorship. The Carnival Queen and her two princesses abseiled – wearing their sashes – and the Majorettes and a couple of Carnival Clubs were there too. We organised the abseil on a 50/50 basis so all those who took part raised money for their charities and for us.”
Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance is the Carnival Committee’s nominated charity this year. Terry Small represents the charity’s committee, coordinating town centre bucket collections, gathering funds from carnivals and boxes in pubs, clubs and and selling merchandise at shows.
