Cats Protection are opening a new charity shop in South St. The shop, formerly a photography studio and previously to that a sports shop for many years, has been extensively refitted. Cats Protection are looking for staff. The charity previously ran a shop in Taunton but closed it in 2012 due to economic pressures.
Neighbouring retailers are not totally thrilled. “I don’t want to see another charity shop but what can you do?” asked one. “Six months ago there was hardly an empty shop in the town centre, now the number is creeping up again with the closure of Artfully Made and the relocation of Carly Press,” said Wellington Business Association chairman.
On the plus side, the traditional sweet shop on North St is now up and running and there are plans afoot to re-open the recently closed Old Sale Rooms in a new guise.
