Wellington residents are likely to have their waste bins emptied every three weeks rather than fortnightly in the New Year. Taunton Deane Borough Council is likely to approve plans by Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP) to change the fortnightly refuse collection to once every three weeks. Weekly collections of recycled materials and food waste will be unaffected.
The proposed change is the outcome of successful trials in Taunton Deane and Wivelsicombe in 2014 and the introduction of new rules which mean that more materials can now be recycled. These include plastic pots, tubs and trays, batteries and small electrical appliances. Families can apply for additional capacity or sacks for nappies should they need extra refuse provision.
The final decision will be taken at a meeting on 16 December attended by all six SWP partners – including TDBC – where concerns about the proposal can be addressed.
Residents are reminded that waste collections will be one day later in the fortnight after Christmas while garden waste collections are suspended.
There will be no change to collections up to and including December 23, and usual services will resume from January 9.
