Chinese men – all 500m of them – will soon have the chance to shave with products made in Wellington. Swallowfield has signed a significant export deal for shave gel and post-foaming shower gel with the Shanghai personal care company, Jahwa United.
Jamie Bachelor, International Operations Director at Swallowfield, commented: “We are very proud to have commenced manufacturing products for the Chinese market, having overcome a number of regulatory hurdles to put the arrangement in place. The deal further strengthens our bonds with Jahwa United and we hope it signals the start of a successful export relationship with the Chinese market.”
The international relationship with Jahwa United began almost nine years ago with Swallowfield using the Chinese company to develop personal care products for the company to send back to the UK and European markets.
Swallowfield has spent the last two years identifying opportunities to sell back into the rapidly expanding Chinese economy, taking advantage of its burgeoning middle-class spending power and demand for high quality products.
Jahwa United recently sent a team of four technical personnel to Swallowfield’s Wellington plant to identify additional opportunities for the two businesses to work together.
