The Frock Shop is once again joining forces with Wellington Boots in presenting a Fashion Show in the Great Hall of Wellington School on Wednesday 20th May from 7pm to 9pm to raise money for the Soldiers’, Sailors’ and Air Force’s Association (SSAFA). It aims to build on the success of last year’s show which raised £750 for the charity.
Sue Adams, Chair of Friends of SSAFA Somerset, explained the charity’s work: “Founded in 1885, the SSAFA is the longest serving military charity. The strapline that accompanies its logo states that it offers ‘lifelong support for our Forces and their families’.”
“The scale and scope of the charity is enormous – from WW2 veterans in ill health or the family of an injured soldier or a disabled child needing a holiday to a bereaved parent of a young soldier or serviceman. We support all the Armed Forces.”
She added: “The charity also funds Norton Homes for injured service personnel, a confidential phone help line which any serviceman can access from anywhere they might be stationed, homes for separated families, confidential help and support from volunteer case workers who are trained by SSAFA. It runs an adoption service and offers financial support in association with other charities and benevolent funds. Every year we provide a caring service for about 50,000 people.”
Tickets (£10 to include a glass of wine) for this year’s show are available at The Frock Shop and from Kamyko, both on the High Street.
