Wellington could have its own short film festival next year. Members of the Town Centre working Group have been in touch with organisers of the recent Ilfracombe Film Festival and with professionals at the South West Film Hub in Bristol to explore the possibilities of an event to be held at the Wellesley Cinema.
Wellesley manager Dave Harris attended a recent meeting of the TCWG and explained how a weekend festival at the art deco cinema might work and what the overall costs might be – although most of those could be covered by ticket sales and grants.
“I think it’s an idea with lots of potential to capitalise on one of the town’s biggest assets, the wonderful Wellesley cinema,” said Cllr Mark Lithgow, co-chair of the TCWG. “If it increases footfall and lets more people know how good our town is, then it’s something we should get behind.”
The working group is now appealing for local people with an interest in film and any relevant experience in events or promotions who might be keen to form a volunteer group to contact town clerk Greg Dyke on 01823 662855 or via email@example.com
