Two moving personal stories prompted a wholehearted response to the Charity Bingo Evening at Wellington Rugby Club on Friday 20 July.
Organised by Beech Grove Primary School teaching assistant Megan Beale in memory of Maddie Vincer, her fellow member of staff who died in May this year, the evening was to raise funds for Cancer Research and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. The evening also marked the anniversary of the death of Adam Platt, Megan’s boyfriend’s foster brother, in 2017 following the rejection of his heart transplant.
Megan’s team of teaching assistants were stretched to provide more tables for friends, Beech Grove parents and families of Maddie and Adam who filled the clubhouse, provided free of charge for the night by the Rugby Club.
Over £1,000 was raised from the evening – include the raffle of prizes donated by individuals and businesses and cake sales.
Maddie Vincer’s Year 3 and 4 pupils at Beech Grove are now planning a Memorial Garden for her at the school.
