Genesis Youth Theatre’s Christmas show, ‘T’was the Night Before Genesis’, puts together a cast of 18 young actors aged from 10 to 16, great singalong Christmas songs – 17 of them including ‘Rocking around the Christmas Tree’, ‘Santa Baby’, ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ etc -, a great deal of enthusiasm and lots of talent.
As well as songs there are sketches and dance routines all based around the central idea of what might happen in the build-up to Christmas starting with children’s anticipation of gifts. There’s Santa and Rudolph, a disgruntled elf, a very pretty Christmas tree fairy and an impressive, colourful assembly of Christmas knitwear.
Kathy Boyd is responsible for the engaging concept and she also directs the show. She has a very able, experienced team around her, including Producer Brian Green and vocal coach John Walker. Tony Woollard (sound) Steve Bradnum (lighting) and Carol Watkins & Alice Cribbon (costumes) complete a supportive backstage crew. Choreography has been devised by the cast.
Genesis Youth Theatre provides young people with invaluable experience of performance and all the elements of stagecraft which lead to productions. They contribute commitment, energy and, above all, enthusiasm which are much in evidence in this production. Audiences will certainly enjoy ‘Twas the Night Before Genesis’!
The show runs from Thursday 3 to Saturday 5 December at The Arts Centre in Eight Acre Lane starting at 7.30. Tickets from Teare’s Newsagents in South Street, at the door or phone 07734 174091.
