Groundsman Simon Cook has won a prestigious national award that will see him off to Wimbledon next summer to help prepare tennis courts for the annual tournament. Simon, who has worked at Wellington School for three years has won the SALTEX College Cup.
In an “Apprentice-style” challenge held at the imposing NEC in Birmingham, Simon and his team were given a case study, which they had to review and present to a panel of experts.
Simon beat off all competition to win the coveted title, which also comes with £500 cheque.
In addition to making Wellington School grounds immaculate, Simon is also studying Sports Turf Management at Bridgewater and Taunton College.
