With brilliant sunshine, more than a hundred stalls selling all manner of wares and huge crowds in shorts and sandals, there was little to distinguish between Milverton on Monday 7 May and any Provençal town market day in summer.
The town’s Street Fair has built a reputation over the years as a fine place to enjoy the May Bank Holiday and with such perfect weather the event could hardly have been more successful.
Stalls selling all manner of goods from toys to antiques and arts and crafts, a range of refreshments for all tastes, entertainment for families, a hat competition, stilt walkers and face-painting – and more – drew in crowds that filled Fore Street, the Victoria Rooms and Jubilee Gardens to capacity.
Credit must go to the organisers – all volunteers – who put in long hours to make the Street Fair so successful. All the proceeds for the sale of pitches go to local groups, societies and charities.
