Wellington Hospital League of Friends held their annual Summer Fête at Wellington Prep School on Saturday 27 May.
This is the group’s major fund-raising event of the year and attracts supporters and contributors from around the Wellington community and beyond. Stalls selling plants and flowers, books, bric a brac, fruit and vegetables are, among others, all manned by volunteers from the League of Friends committee, Wellington Women’s Guild and Inner Wheel and West Buckland Women’s Institute. Raffle prizes are all donated by companies and businesses in the town as well as individuals.
Organiser Hilda Thornton paid tribute to the efforts of everyone involved in making the event such a success. She said, “We expect to raise about £2,000 from the Summer Fête each year, all of which goes towards buying equipment for Wellington Hospital outpatients’ unit and Stratfield House Day Care Centre. Many people and groups help towards this event and we’re so grateful to them all.”
The League of Friends also raises funds for Wellington Hospital and for Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton from a Christmas Coffee Morning and a Quiz Night held at Wellington Bowling Club.
The group meets every 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Community Hospital in Bulford and new members are made most welcome.
