The Emporium Wellington in Mantle Street got into sparkling Christmas mode this week when Wellington WI group founder and President, Karen Janas, joined Taunton Deane Deane MP, Rebecca Pow, in switching on the store’s Christmas lights.
Karen Janas was chosen as VIP for the occasion as a result of nominations from the local community. Cato Cooper, Co-owner of The Emporium Somerset, said: “We put out a call to the community to nominate someone they felt deserved to be a VIP for the event and we received lots of nominations for Karen as she does such great work locally and puts lots of time and effort into the Wellington WI group.”
Rebecca Pow paid tribute to the quality and style of The Emporium which has more than 40 shops selling thousands of homeware and gift items, many made nearby, as well as Cato’s own painted furniture and home accessories studio and workshop.
The many shoppers browsing for gifts at the event also helped to raise money for the charity S.U.R.E by making donations in return for mince pies and prosecco.
Karen Janas said: “I was humbled and delighted to be nominated for the Christmas light switch on and it was a lovely and enjoyable evening.”
The HOPE choir also sang a selection of Christmas carols during the event for attendees and collected for S.U.R.E.
