Wellington were at home on Saturday 8 December and might have anticipated a tough match against Odd Down (Bath) who are ranked higher in the Toolstation Premier League. So it proved, with numerous chances created by both sides on a blustery, difficult day but the visitors came away with 3 points from their 1-3 victory.
Odd Down took the lead after 10 minutes when Kye Mountford headed home from a corner. On 23 minutes Wellington had loud appeals for a penalty turned down but immediately faced an Odd Down break which resulted in a foul by Wellington’s Tom Hawkings. This time the referee awarded a penalty but the spot kick hit the post. Just 6 minutes later Hawkings had his own shot on goal turned round the post.
Opportunities continued to be created by both sides before the interval – an Odd Down shot hitting the underside of the crossbar and Wellington’s Jack Bryant seeing his own attempt punched away by the goalkeeper.
Wellington had a chance to equalise shortly after the break when a shot by George Rogers was cleared but, on 55 minutes, it was Odd Down’s Ash McGrane who added a second goal to the visitors’ tally after a defensive error.
Conor Bryant’s fierce shot into the roof of the net 5 minutes later gave them renewed hope that the match was still alive but Odd Down scored a decisive goal after Josh McLean made two successive saves.
Mitch Woodgate was made Man of the Match.
On Saturday 15 December Wellington travel to Brislington. This should be an interesting fixture as the two sides are closely ranked. Wellington are three places higher in the league with only two points more.
