Members of Wellington Tennis Club brought an end to the summer season with a tournament involving both juniors and adults on Sunday 2 September.
Organising the format, Philippa Deem sorted 16 members into 8 pairs then put 4 pairs on each court. They played best of 5 games and then swapped around. Next the four top scoring pairs played best of 7 games in the semi finals to decide the finalists.
Claire Hamilton and Tabitha Rickard defeated Geoff Lee and Freya Rickard 4-3 and were presented with medals by club Chairman, Sue Rackley.
Other players who participated were Sue Rackley and Isabelle Bevan, Jeanette Lewis and Louisa Raybould, Cameron Forrest and Sandra Frost, Julia Tucker and Emily Raybould, Philippa Deem and Susan Mathie and John Paltridge and Molly Rickard.
Two junior finals were also played recently. Cameron Forrest defeated a Ben Wardell to gain the 14U Boys’ title whilst Lydia Mitchell became the new 18U Girls champion, winning a close match 6-3, 6-3 against Emily Raybould.
Sue said, “I watched their match and most points were 10 stroke rallies with both girls keeping the ball in play. They have played for some of our league matches which I think really helps players to improve tactical play.”
The Club’s fundraising ‘Cleverly Everly’ concert is on Saturday 15th at 7pm in Langford Budville Village Hall. A bar is available and raffle will be drawn. Over 100 tickets have already been sold but a few are still available from Odette’s Tearoom in Wellington High Street.
