The opening of The Sporting Duchess in South Street, Wellington, has brought vibrant business back to the former Co-op Bank premises.
The success of owner Joanna Sandow’s retail outlet in the High Street meant that it had outgrown its premises since it opened in 2012. Now The Sporting Duchess has joined the other high-quality independent retailers in South Street that offer an enviably attractive and varied shopping venue for local people and visitors to the town.
The shop has been completely refurbished to provide a stylish, contemporary, well-lit and attractive environment to display men’s and women’s clothing ranges including high-end Barbour, Seasalt, Brodie Cashmere and Henry Arroway and accessories. The Sporting Duchess would now fit comfortably into the range of outlets in any big city. Joanna Sandow said there is more work still to be done on the premises, especially the frontage, but that the response from her regular customers and those browsing for the first time had been ‘very positive’.
With spring and summer street fairs ahead to attract visitors to Wellington town centre, the prospects for The Sporting Duchess, South Street and for all independent retailers in Wellington looks bright.
