Court Fields Community Pre-School in Mantle Street, Wellington, has been rated as ‘Outstanding’ in each of the four inspection categories by Ofsted following a visit to the school on 27th February.
Two years ago the school received a ‘Good’ rating from inspectors but has since made significant improvements that have led to it being rated as ‘outstanding’.
The school’s manager, Sheryl Higgs, said, “We are absolutely ecstatic at the ‘Outstanding’ grading and report as it is in recognition of all the hard work that has been put into the setting since its regeneration from September 2016.
“Due to the retirement of long-standing members of staff, a new team was created and the setting transformed, not only visually but also in its ethos and approach. Lots of time and energy have driven these changes and with the support of an excellent Chair, committee and parental partnerships we are where we are today.
“We have had support from many local businesses to fund the changes – from Co-op, the team at The Green Dragon, Wellington Rugby Club bingo, Waitrose and donations from our community for fundraising events. We are incredibly grateful for all the support and incredibly proud of our setting. It proves what a fantastic community Wellington is.”
The full report provides details of the qualities that have led to Inspectors’ ‘Outstanding’ ratings in leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development and outcomes for children.
The report’s key findings state: “Children make excellent progress, relative to their starting points. They are keen learners who eagerly engage in activities that challenge them extremely well. The manager’s excellent systems of monitoring the effectiveness of the learning programme quickly identify and address any gaps in learning.
“Children are highly confident and have excellent self-esteem. The extremely effective key-person system helps children to settle quickly and make good relationships with staff and other children.
“The manager encourages staff to make the most of training opportunities. They use new knowledge and skills extremely effectively to improve children’s learning experiences.
‘Staff have excellent relationships with parents and involve them extremely well in their children’s learning from the beginning.”
Court Fields Community Pre-School is run by a voluntary management committee, provides places for 18 children from 2 to 4 years old and employs six members of staff.
