Roads around the village of Churchinford on the Blackdowns have now reopened following the crash of a six seater Malibu Mirage light aircraft on Saturday morning. The 6 seater plane came down in a field near the village. The four passengers – believed to be members of the same family – were all killed.
Road closures allowed teams from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue and South West Ambulance Services to attend the scene along with Devon Air Ambulance and a police helicopter. Supt Richard Corrigan of Avon and Somerset Police issued a request for people to stay away from the area on Saturday.
It is believed that the plane was heading for Dunkerswell Aerodrome, 7 miles from the crash site.
Members of the Air Accident Investigation Branch are currently at the scene.
