Rockets Pre-school at Rockwell Green Primary School has moved into a new purpose-built unit on the schoolsite and, as a result, can now offer up to 40 places to pre-school children, an increase of 66%.
Rockwell Green Primary School Head Morwenna Dunstan said, “The children are absolutely loving it and really enjoying the extra space. It’s a really massive building and a much nicer environment. We’ve had an early years grant too which means we’ve been able to get new furniture, a play kitchen, play tent and new construction toys.”
The school’s original pre-school unit was in a classroom, space which has now become available to older children.
The new building is one of six other projects by Somerset County Council, increasing the number of childcare places in the county by nearly 200.
The council says its aim is to ensure that working families are able to use the 30 hours funded childcare for their 3 and 4-year-old children available from this September.
