Today the voters of Rockwell Green are electing their new representative on Wellington town council. Retiring councillor Bill Sparrow is delighted to see a full list of candidates from the three main parties – plus an Independent, like himself, and urges voters to turn out in force.
“It is certainly a very welcome that four candidates have put themselves forward for the vacancy of councillor for Rockwell Green,” said Bill. “Being a councillor is a privilege and most of the work is collaborative, and collective efforts enable decisions are arrived at which benefit the town and its inhabitants.
“I sincerely hope the residents of Rockwell Green turn out en masse to vote. I believe a balanced council produce the best outcomes. Unfortunately all councils are having their budgets cut by this Government and this will continue up to 2020, therefore majority political councils of all hues, simply have to carry out the dictate of this government .
“So good luck to the winner of the Rockwell Green election , whatever their political alliance. And a thank you to those who offered their service, to the community.”
The polling station at Rockwell Green village hall is open until 10pm tonight.
