Nancy Powell-Brace has now finalised the route of her Monumental Walk from Cleopatra’s Needle on the banks of the Thames in London to Wellington Monument.
Friday 14 September: Cleopatra’s Needle to Windsor
Saturday 15 September: Windsor to Reading
Sunday 16 September: Reading to Newbury along the Kennet and Avon Canal
Monday 17 September: Newbury to Pewsey (canal)
Tuesday 18 September: Pewsey to Trowbridge (canal)
Wednesday 19 September: Trowbridge to Shepton Mallett
Thursday 20 September: Shepton Mallett to Somerton
Friday 21 September: Somerton to Taunton
Saturday 22 September: Taunton to Monument via Wellington town centre
Nancy is aiming to raise vital funds for the repair of the town’s iconic landmark by walking the distance between two of Europe’s three-sided monuments. She would also like to raise greater awareness of the value of the landmark to the local community.
The Monumental Walk is supported by the National Trust who own the Monument and by local businesses who are sponsoring her to complete the 180 miles in just 9 days. The challenge has already attracted individual contributions, many made personally to her at Odette’s Tea Room in Wellington High Street which she co-owns.
She will be accompanied each day by friends and supporters and, for the final day’s walk to the Monument, she is inviting local people to join her.
