World Book Day was marked at Beech Grove Primary School, Wellington, on the final day of the Spring Term, Friday 23 March.
Children and teachers dressed up as characters from their favourite books and shared class readings of their own chosen stories.
During a whole-school assembly at the end of the day the best costume from each class was chosen, underlining the school’s celebration of the value books.
On the same day the Friends of Beech Grove held an Easter Egg Hunt for all classes helped by the Year 6 ‘Wellington Ambassadors’ as Easter Bunnies, hiding the plastic eggs for pupils to find and then exchange for bags of sweets.
Year 6 Entrepreneurs announced the winners of their Easter Egg Raffle and presented three eggs as prizes. They raised £110 to fund requests submitted to the School Council at their last meeting.
Speaking on behalf of the school Sue Keates said, “Altogether it was a busy, exciting day enjoyed by the whole school community.”
