Taunton planners have supported the views of Wellington town councillors and instructed the owners of a bungalow at 57 Barns Mead Rd to take down a 1m high garden fence erected three years ago without planning permission.
“It’s out of keeping with he rest of the street which is very much open plan in appearance,” said Cllr Andy Govier. “OK, it’s been there for a while but they shouldn’t have done it.”
His view was supported by Cllr John Thorne, who said: “It’s supposed to be an open-plan estate and if this one is allowed then neighbours might start doing it all along the road.”
The TDBC planning decision said: “This part of the estate is designed to be open plan and enforced as such by condition and preserved as such since the mid 1970’s. The fence to the front of 57 Barn Meads Road, by virtue of its design and materials fails to respect, and detracts from, the character of the area and the street scene, to the detriment of the appearance of the surrounding area.”
