Clayhidon’s ambitious programme of drama and music in the village hall continues next week on May 17th at 7.30pm with a production of Talking Heads, first seen at Exeter’s acclaimed Northcott Theatre.
“Some of you will have seen the first performances of this acclaimed series of short plays by Alan Bennett when they were shown on BBC television some years ago,” writes Bee Hill.
“ In this show three of the most outstanding vignettes will be staged by the Devon-based company The Uncommon Players, an open mix of theatre artists who will be bringing to audiences high quality theatre from one of Britain’s leading dramatists – this is surely an opportunity that shouldn’t be missed.”
These are the three playlets:
In A BED AMONG THE LENTILS we meet Susan (Imogen Smith) a vicar’s wife for whom a taste for sherry and a dalliance with a local corner shopkeeper help alleviate the tedium.
Next in SOLDIERING ON community stalwart Muriel (Jenny Start) organises people and events including her own husband’s funeral, with military precision.
And in A CREAM CRACKER UNDER THE SETTEE we meet Doris (Janet Hookway) who is fastidiously clean and defiant about going into a home.
