Wellington’s 1-3 loss to Saltash United in the FA Vase on Saturday 1 September means they lose out on valuable revenue for the club but can now focus on securing their place in the Toolstation Premier League.
Saltash were favourites to win this tough match – played at Cullompton. The team play in the South West Peninsular League and are currently in 3rd place.
Wellington were a goal behind after 31 minutes but equalised through a ‘worldly dribble and finish’ by Josh Wadham on 60 minutes. This was reported as a period when Wellington were on top which should be an encouraging sign for the squad. But Saltash showed their superiority, replying with their second on 73 minutes and added a third 10 minutes before the whistle.
The Man of the Match award went to Conor Bryant for ‘a fine performance at centre half.’
Wellington can now look forward to playing their home matches on the North Street ground. The first is on Saturday 8 September when they face Shepton Mallet. The visitors are currently just 4 places above the Tangerines in the Toolstation Premier League having played three matches with one win. Wellington have played three and are yet to record a victory. This looks like a reliable test of Clive Jones’ team.
