Wellington AFC went out of the Somerset FA Cup on Wednesday 9 October following their 2-1 defeat by Clevedon Town.
Clevedon have started the season confidently and are in 4th place in the Toolstation Premier League so this was expected to be a strong challenge for the Tangerines. Wellington made four changes from the side who beat Cadbury Heath so convincingly of Saturday 6 October and, at the interval in this match, were on equal terms with neither side having found the net.
On 48 mins Clevedon’s Syd Camper scored the first goal but Conor Bryant equalised just 6 minutes later. Clevedon’s Jack Snell added a second to the home side’s tally one minute later – and the team could have scored a third from the penalty spot on 78 minutes had Josh McLean not saved the shot.
Wellington’s George Painter was made Man of the Match and the team acknowledged that they were beaten by opponents who ‘played the game in the right way’.
The Tangerines are at home in the league against Bradford Town on Saturday 13 October. A good home crowd to support them at the North Street would be welcome.
