After their impressive victory over Wells City in the FA Vase on Saturday Wellington Football Club suffered a stunning defeat in their Toolstation Premier League match against Willand Rovers on Wednesday 13 September.
Playing away from home once again the Tangerines managed to concede 11 goals without scoring a single one. The first from Luke Mortimore – who went on to score a hat-trick – came after just 3 minutes of the game and he scored his third well before half-time. Brad Worbey also scored three goals.
This was not the result Manager Clive Jones would have been anticipating on his return to a club he managed and where he enjoyed considerable success but the final score indicated that there is a considerable gulf in class between the top of the division – Willand lie in 2nd place – and the foot of the table. Wellington have collected just 3 points from 8 matches.
Wellington’s next fixture is a home match against Brislington on Saturday 16 September.
