Nancy Powell Brace’s initiative to raise funds for the Wellington Monument renovation by walking from Cleopatra’s Needle on the banks of the Thames to the Monument itself in just over a week has already raised more than £4000.
Nancy is co-owner of Odette’s Tea Room in Wellington High Street. She said, “The money has been collected through individual donations in cash and cheques here at Odette’s and by bank transfers. I’m absolutely delighted with the sum raised so far and, with just over a week to go before the walk, I think this is a really wonderful start. I’m so grateful for the support people have given so far.”
The Monumental Walk is being supported by local businesses and the National Trust. Nancy will start her 180+ mile journey at Cleopatra’s Needle on Friday 14th September and she expects to be back in Wellington for local people to join her on the final stage up to the Monument itself on Saturday 22nd September.
Asked how her training for a demanding journey was progressing, she said, “I’m on my feet for 8 hours a day already so I think I’ll be fine!”
