This quarter the U3A Country Walking Group group has enjoyed a number of interesting, enjoyable and varied walks in the area, organised by Linda Wiltshire, Peter Thwaites and Merv Nixson, assisted by Clin Petley.
In September the first walk began and finished in West Monkton with the second walk on the Mendip Hills up to Crook Peak, where the weather unfortunately was overcast preventing the group from enjoying the fine views which are available from the viewpoint. However it remained dry until after the group had sat down in the pub for a well earned drink and lunch.
The walks during October were on the Quantock Hills where there are always good views to be had, and at Porlock Weir, where thanks to the nice weather the view of the Welsh coast could be seen clearly.
November’s walks were to Glastonbury Tor, starting and finishing in Glastonbury, and walking to the top of the Tor where a strong wind was blowing. The following week we met at West Huntspill, and after passing through the village the walk proceeded alongside the River’s Brue and Parrett before returning to the starting point.
Mostly the walks were well attended by between 6 and 16 people. New members are always welcome so why not come and join us. All walks take place on the 3rd and 4th Thursdays of each month except for August due to holidays.
