Two hugely popular ballets are coming to the Wellesley Cinema in time for Christmas – and tickets for both are already selling quickly.
The Royal Ballet’s production of ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ is being transmitted direct from the Royal Opera House on Tuesday 16th December at 7.15pm. Following the recent opening night of this updated production – first seen in 2011 – The Telegraph critic Sarah Crompton said, “It looked good on its premier; now it looks great! The audience regularly gasped in rapture, and applauded with delight. ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ is a winner!” With a galaxy of well-known characters, an absorbingly quirky narrative, fine dancing and inventive staging, this promises to be a delight for audiences of all ages.
On Sunday 21 December the Wellesley is screening the live transmission of the Bolshoi’s production of ‘The Nutcracker’. This timeless story in which Christmas toys come to life and valiant nutcracker dolls battle with the Mouse King and his army is one of the greatest seasonal classics. A ‘romantic masterpiece’, it is accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s magical score. Reviews are not yet available but, given the guaranteed quality of Bolshoi productions and the magic of this ballet, it is certain to be a success – and perfect for Christmas viewing.
