Wellington welcomed Pirate Amateurs to The Athletic Ground last Saturday and as the score would suggest this was a difficult afternoon for the Cornish visitors. Buoyed by recent encouraging performances Wellington went into the match full of confidence going onto dominate all aspects of the game.
The Pirates tried their best to stem the onslaught of tries but their efforts proved to be in vain. However to The Pirates immense credit they never gave up and fully deserved to score their try. For Wellington it was pleasing to see all the patterns and moves practised on the training paddock being put into operation on match day.
Young Ethan Stalker made his 1st XV debut on the wing, however a major concern for Wellington is that hooker Joe Dyke had to leave the field 20minutes into the game with a back injury being replaced by Liam Phillips.
For sure there will be sterner tests to come, starting this coming Saturday when the team travel to Plymouth to take on The Argum.
The R&B’s try scores were; George Hodgson x5, Brad Field x4, Liam Phillips x3 with Ben Gamlin & Chris Kitto scoring one each. Alex Davey kicked 12 conversions.
Wellington RFC would like to thank Dave & Julia Wicks for sponsoring the match and Steve Maidment for sponsoring the match ball.
