Wellington closed a busy Christmas period with a 4-1 defeat at Bitton having opened the scoring after just 40 seconds through a superb shot from 35 yards by George Rogers.
Bitton are in 5th place in the Toolstation Premier League and fighting for promotion over the four teams above them, each of whom have played more matches, so their response came shortly afterwards. Josh Mclean in goal managed to push one effort wide of the post but Bitton drew level after 19 minutes through Joe McLennan who added a second 2 minutes later.
Therafter, throughout the first half, Wellington were kept on the back foot with a single attempt – a curling shot by Mitch Woodgate – well saved.
After the interval it took Bitton 5 minutes to add to their total through Dean Griffiths, with a fourth goal coming shortly afterwards from Josh Egan. This brought Bitton’s tally to 37 goals in the last 10 matches. Whilst Wellington were well beaten at this stage, Jack Bryant had an attempt pushed over the bar and his brother Conor saw his header rebound off the crossbar on 62 minutes.
Defender Tim Legg was presented with Wellington’s Man of the Match award by keen supporter, Andrew Govier.
Wellington now have a home match against Hallen on Saturday 5 January. Hallen are only two places above the Tangerines with three more points.
