Wellington continued to struggle for points away from home when they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Shepton Mallet on Saturday 1 December.
The Tangerines’ early form in this match against opponents ranked higher in the Toolstation Premier League was encouraging with Paolo Borges’ shot on target after just 5 minutes being saved. Shortly afterwards Jack Porter’s attempt was headed off the goal line.
This early flurry of chances created by the visitors was maintained until just before the interval when Shepton Mallet’s Tyson Pollard opened the scoring on 43 minutes.
Wellington continued to play positive football for much of the second half, with Borges unlucky to see his attempted equaliser hitting the inside of the post on 53 minutes. It wasn’t until 70 minutes that the generally even match turned decisively in the home side’s favour when Francois Allen scored their second goal.
Wellington skipper Glen Wright was named Man of the Match.
Wellington face Odd Down (Bath) at the North Street ground on Saturday 8 December. The visitors are in 7th place in the league and are expected to provide a rigorous test for Clive Jones’ team. He will, though, be encouraged by their home record.
