Saturday 8 September marks the 10th anniversary of The World Wellington Boot Throwing Championship, held on the playing fields of Court Fields School, Mantle Street, Wellington.
The opening at 12 noon by Wellington Mayor Councillor Gary James will be followed by a display by Wellington Majorettes.
Accompanying the throwing events there’s music beginning at 1pm with Wellington Silver Band. Ukulele Group is playing from 2 to 3pm and popular singer and instrumentalist Fodo Higginson is providing a selection of groove, soul, reggae and more from 3 to 5pm.
Free face-painting is available all day for children and adults, South West Inflatables are providing the bouncy castle area and The Mount Veterinary Hospital is hosting the traditional Dog Show starting at 1pm.
Entry to the event is free but there’s a small charge for entering the competitions. Medals, trophies and shields have been sponsored by Wellington businesses and will be presented to the winners of each throwing category at 5pm.
The Vintage Inn will provide the traditional hog roast and a bar with beer and a selection of gins in a variety of flavours. Ice creams are from Styles Ice Cream.
This year’s raffle profits will be given to WHERE, the Westcountry Health Education and Research Enterprise which supports adults with disabilities at The Northfield Centre, North Street, Wellington. Raffle tickets are available from WHERE prior to the event and on the day. The first prize has been kindly donated by King’s Cycles, North Street, Wellington. It may be a bicycle!
