Wellington made the long journey west to the Cornish port of Penryn for a tough match. Penryn let Wellington run up a ten-point lead before they woke up.
It looked all over at 26-10 but back came Wellington with a superb try, run in from half way to make for a tight finish.
Wellington were furious when Ben Gamlin crossed the line only for the try to be disallowed for the final pass being judged forward. If the try had been awarded the final result may well have been different.
“Our games with Wellington are a generally close affairs and this was another one,” said Penryn’s director of rugby Paul Trevaskis.
“It wasn’t a great day to be a back as it was a good hard tussle between the forwards. If there was a key difference it was our penalty count was lower than theirs – and we kicked more of ours than they did.”
Jake Sevior inched the Borough back into the game by kicking a penalty, converting his own try to level the scores then slotting three penalties to take the lead.
It looked all over for the visitors when George Jones scored for Penryn after a series of pick and drives.
Then Wellington struck back with a try from distance by Dan Moore that Nichols converted.
