Nurtured by Nature, the eco-shop and cafe in the centre of Wellington, is closing down this weekend. Owner Stacy Faulkner says high rent and business rates make it impossible to keep the business going.
“The last few months have been quite dreadful,” said Stacy. “The footfall past the shop has been falling steadily and the weather hasn’t helped one bit.”
Nurtured by Nature, which sells exclusively green and Fairtrade products, opened just over two years ago. “Some people have said that Wellington isn’t ready for this kind of shop but I don’t agree with that,” said Stacy.
Certainly during our visit a steady stream of regular customers dropped in to say how shocked they were to see the Closing Down signs in the window. “We’re going to keep our eyes open for somewhere with lower overheads but our rates alone are £800 a month, and that’s a lot of jumpers.”
Stacy intends to continue to practise as a massage therapist at the treatment rooms in South Street. She is one of only a few hundred people in the UK trained in Manual Lymphatic Drainage, a treatment for the condition of Lymphoedema which can affect a number of post-cancer patients.
“I’m really disappointed that we can’t keep the shop going but at least we tried,” she said. There are some fantastic bargains on the Sale rails, including some childrens’ clothes reduced from £44 to £5 an item.

so sorry to hear this news, I tried to e mail the shop today as we were hoping that maybe we could do another concert with you, when it failed we found the message.on the net.
