Retailers in Wellington are cooperating to bring bargain-hunting crowds to the town on every Saturday in November. Over 50 shops are joining forces to offer their own distinct promotions on Nov 2nd,9th,16th,23rd &30th.
“Some will be doing major one-day discounts, others buy One Get One Free, raffles and so forth,” explained Sally Hooper, owner of Mad Dog branded clothing and chair of South St Traders. It was her idea.
“We’re going to be giving away a really good gift for anyone who spends £30 or more in the shop,” Sally added She and Sam of Cloud 9 have driven the scheme forward by personally canvassing the shops. Every participating business will display red & green balloons outside the premises.
“In November you have to work hard to get people thinking about Christmas gifts,” said Sally. “Otherwise they just put it off.”
In previous years the town has had a Christmas Fayre but this scheme is more far-reaching and involves more businesses. It ends with a flourish on November 30th when the Christmas lights are switched on.

This is an excellent positive initiative by traders in the town to encourage people to shop in Wellington during November. Sally and Sam are to be congratulated for their hard work in pulling this scheme together, which should benefit the whole town.
